چکیده

Abstract Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) relies on good-quality, well-stained frozen sections for effective histological analysis. Slides should also be produced as quickly possible. Automation of complementary devices in the laboratory ensures standardization and efficiency improves overall quality performance. Our study evaluated performance Autostainer-XL (Leica) vs. Linistat (Thermo Scientific) slide stainer within a busy MMS unit. The rapidly dries, loads unloads slides automatically allowing Mohs-trained biomedical scientist (BMS) to work parallel cryotomy. stains with haematoxylin eosin 10 min 50 s. In comparison, was much slower required BMS fix manually hotplate, place them industrial methylated spirit, wash water load individual into Linistat, taking 16 45 s complete staining process. Two blinded assessors retrospectively reviewed same set Linistat-stained stained section consistency staining. scoring criteria were based modified UK National External Quality Assessment Service (NEQAS) Cellular Pathology Technique scheme assessment criteria. Each assessor allocated scores between 1 5 mean significantly higher compared (P < 0.05). our unit, up 12 patients undergo daily an average seven per patient at first stage, leading high processing burden laboratory, particularly stage. increased productivity, ability 30 rack, while only able six rack. practice, reduced time taken produce all layer by more than h when stainer. When surveyed, 100% (n = 8/8) preferred comments suggesting that it easy use, quick, precise important device can withstand demands laboratory. offers improved performance, times, process larger number fully customisable automation

'Mohs surgery of the prostate': the utility of in situ frozen section analysis during robotic prostatectomy.

OBJECTIVE • To evaluate a novel technique to lower positive surgical margin rates while preserving as much of the neurovascular bundles as possible during nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS • In situ intraoperative frozen section (IFS) was performed during robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) when there was macroscopic concern for a positive margin or resid...

Use of Intraoperative Frozen Section during Mediastinoscopy

Introduction: Staging of mediastinal lymph nodes (MLN) by mediastinoscopy can be of critical importance in assessing candidacy for lung resection. Mediastinoscopy is often performed as a sole procedure, with permanent pathology results guiding subsequent intervention. Our practice has been to perform mediastinoscopy followed by immediate surgical resection, as indicated, based on intraoperative...

Parathyroid Autotransplantation During ThyroidectomyIs Frozen Section Necessary?

Results: Of 179 attempted autotransplantations of parathyroid glands, parathyroid tissue was confirmed in 167 biopsy specimens (93.3%). Incorrect identification of parathyroid gland occurred in 12 instances. The tissue mistaken as parathyroid gland included fat in 6 cases, thyroid tissue in 4 cases, lymph node in 1 case, and thymus in 1 case. Transplantation of at least 1 parathyroid gland (ran...

Development of a Whole Slide Imaging System on Smartphones and Evaluation With Frozen Section Samples

BACKGROUND The aim was to develop scalable Whole Slide Imaging (sWSI), a WSI system based on mainstream smartphones coupled with regular optical microscopes. This ultra-low-cost solution should offer diagnostic-ready imaging quality on par with standalone scanners, supporting both oil and dry objective lenses of different magnifications, and reasonably high throughput. These performance metrics...
